File Tide

Terms of Service

Last updated 29 October 2026

These terms cover your use of the File Tide desktop app ("File Tide", "the app") and this website. File Tide is made by Opticalmedia Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales ("we", "us"). By downloading or using File Tide you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. What File Tide does

File Tide is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that uploads files and folders from your computer to your Google Drive, and downloads them from Google Drive to your computer. It works with your own Google account, which you connect by signing in with Google.

2. Your licence to use File Tide

  • File Tide is currently free. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use it on computers you own or control, for personal or business use.
  • You must not copy, sell, rent or redistribute the app, or try to reverse engineer it, except where the law allows it.
  • We may offer paid features in future. If we do, we will tell you first and nothing you already have will start costing money without your agreement.

3. Your Google account and your files

  • You need a Google account, and your use of Google Drive is covered by Google's own terms. File Tide is not made or endorsed by Google.
  • Your files remain yours. We do not claim any rights over them, and they never pass through our servers. Our Privacy Policy explains exactly how the app uses your Google data.
  • You are responsible for the files you transfer, including having the right to upload, download and share them, and for keeping within your Google Drive storage limits.
  • You must not use File Tide to break the law, infringe anyone's rights, or move material that is illegal or harmful.

4. Deleting files from your computer

File Tide can optionally remove files from your computer once they have been uploaded and verified. This is off unless you turn it on. When it is on, removed files go to the Recycle Bin or Bin where your computer supports it. Please make sure you are happy with this setting before you use it, and keep your own backups of anything important.

5. Updates

File Tide checks for updates and can update itself. Updates may add, change or remove features. We may stop supporting older versions, and some versions may stop working if Google changes its services.

6. Availability

We work hard to keep File Tide reliable, but we cannot promise it will always be available, free of errors, or compatible with every computer or every change Google makes. Transfer speeds depend on your internet connection, your computer and Google's services.

7. Our responsibility to you

  • File Tide is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we do not give any promises about it beyond those in these terms.
  • We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not reasonably foreseeable, for loss of business, profits or data where you could have prevented it (for example by keeping backups), or for problems caused by Google's services or your internet connection.
  • If you use File Tide for business, our total responsibility to you for any claim is limited to £100.
  • Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited under the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you keep all your legal rights.

8. Ending your use

You can stop using File Tide at any time by signing out, uninstalling it and, if you wish, removing its access at myaccount.google.com/permissions. We may stop your copy of the app working if you break these terms or use it in a way that could harm others or our services.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will change the date at the top, and for important changes we will let you know in the app. If you keep using File Tide after a change, the new terms apply.

10. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can deal with any dispute. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
